Qatar National Library (QNL) signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with several partner national libraries, in the context of QNL’s grand opening ceremony. The MoUs were signed with the National Library of Turkey, the National Library of the Netherlands, the Azerbaijan National Library, and the National Library of China.

The MoUs signed today demonstrate the importance that QNL places on collaboration with its international counterparts in areas of mutual interest, including science, technology, and culture. These partnerships may include professional staff exchanges, cooperation on projects of shared relevance, and the digitization of material to be made available through the Qatar Digital Library (QDL). The QDL is a joint project between QNL and the British Library, and is the world’s largest online repository devoted to modern Middle Eastern history.

QNL is a member of the World Digital Library and the Digital Library of the Middle East, both of which are consortia of libraries that digitize and share items from their collections to a global audience. QNL is also an active member of the Digital Library Federation, a global organization comprising 185 institutions committed to building and improving digital librarianship.

Dr. Sohair Wastawy, Executive Director of QNL, signed the MoUs with Zülfi Toman, President of the National Library of Turkey; Dr. Lily Knibbeler, Director General of the National Library of the Netherlands; Karim Tahirov, Director of the Azerbaijan National Library; and Han Yongjin, Director of the National Library of China.
