Qatar National Library celebrates International Literacy Day by hosting first book discussion event in Doha (Press Release)

Qatar National Library (QNL) organised its first ever book discussion event to mark International Literacy Day. Members of Qatar Foundation, the general public, QNL registered members and librarians in Qatar attended the gathering at Qatar Foundation’s Clubhouse to discuss ‘The Corsair’ novel. Those present were given an overview of the book and then invited to participate in a Q&A session with the author, Abdulaziz Al Mahmoud, a local Qatari engineer and journalist who previously worked as editor-in-chief of Alsharq and The Peninsula newspapers and also Aljazeera.net.

Qatar National Library (QNL) continued to raise its global profile by taking part in the 2013 World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) in Singapore - an annual event that attracts library and information professionals from around the world to explore a wide range of library products, new technologies, books and innovative online services. QNL’s participation in the 79th IFLA General Conference and Assembly is the latest in an active year to share the library’s vision, exchange innovative ideas and learn how the most creative libraries in the world serve their communities.

Qatar National Library grows global profile at innovative Next Library Conference in Denmark

Qatar National Library (QNL) recently took part in Next Library 2013 – a global gathering of library innovators and decision makers exploring new ways in which libraries around the world can collaborate and innovate using technology and community engagement. QNL’s participation was the latest in an active year for the library which has taken a local, regional and international leadership role by hosting community events in Qatar, conducting regional workshops and forging high-level international partnerships.
