Qatar National Library Lines Up Inspiring Events to Nurture New Literacies and Life Skills

Qatar National Library is presenting a series of enlightening and informative events throughout the month of June. The Library’s program of events offer insights on parenting, financial and legal literacy, creativity, initiating a book club, and more.

The “Mommy to Be” lecture series, presented by experts and specialists in the field of motherhood, childhood and health, continues today (1 JUNE). “Mommy to Be: Help Me Sleep Through the Night”, with Dr. Rola Qatami, Maternity and Childhood Specialist, will explore the positive effects of sleep on a child’s overall wellbeing and assist mothers, particularly working mothers, in managing their time.

The second series of the QNL Engage podcasts, titled “The Role of Libraries in Creating an Educated and Cultured Society” kicks off this month (JUNE). The first episode on 4 June delves into the importance of financial literacy for the younger generation. Accomplished entrepreneur Hamad Al-Hajri will share his insights on the significance of financial literacy and its impact on personal growth.

Episode 2 on 11 June – “Legal Advice for New Companies” – will hear from Hamad Al Yafei, a renowned attorney, who will shed light on the essential aspects of legal awareness for entrepreneurs and businesses. The third episode, on 18 June, features Dr. Dena Al-Thani, Assistant Professor at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, speaking on the subject, “How to Make AI Accessible”.

As part of the “Art of the Book” event series, the Library, in collaboration with the French Embassy and the Institut Français, presents a fascinating lecture called the “History of Arab Printing in Europe” on 6 June. Presented by Slimane Zeghidour, writer and Chief Editor at TV5MONDE, the session will delve into the scholarly and artistic significance of this cross-cultural exchange.

With a focus on families, the Library presents a compelling session on navigating the adolescent years successfully for children with Down syndrome. The online talk on 7 June will be presented in Arabic by Ms. Ruba Dababat, Speech and Language Pathologist at Qatar Foundation Learning Center.

On 8 June, youth from ages 12 to 18 can learn more about “The Six Thinking Hats” - one of the most important methods of creative thinking. Presented in Arabic, the session will reveal the importance of each hat and its characteristics.

Be prepared to be swept away on an enchanting melodic journey by The Philharmonic at the Library: Harmoniemusik for Wind Octet, on 14 June. Experience the beauty of pieces by Rossini, Haydn, Beethoven, and Dvořák as the Philharmonic’s musicians bring the spirit of the 18th century court and salons of Europe to life.

Later in the month on 20 June, the “How Do I …” series of talks will look at how to start a book club, providing valuable insights on launching your own reading circle. It will also include tips on how the Library can provide support by offering a curated list of book club titles available in its collections.
