27 September 2016
Qatar National Library (QNL) is participating in Qatar Foundation’s Annual Research Conference 2013 (ARC’13), in order to highlight the large range of services and information the library is currently providing to the community. Representatives from QNL are presenting today and tomorrow, 24th and 25th of November at the Qatar National Convention Centre, to the delegates from diverse research sectors about the library’s three core functions, the National Library, University and Research Library, and the Metropolitan Public Library, each function serves specific members of the community.

A dedicated set of cutting-edge tools and technologies are being offered which are highly useful to both professional and student researchers.

ARC ’13 is bringing together renowned researchers, experts from the public and private sectors, academia and budding scientists with the aim of finding solutions to the challenges outlined in the Qatar National Research Strategy. Dr Claudia Lux, Project Director of QNL said, “The University and Research Library function supports education and research at all levels by providing printed and digital library materials for students and researchers. QNL currently offers free online access to Qataris and residents in Qatar to explore a vast collection of online resources including the latest bestsellers, classical works, top academic journals and documentaries.”

In addition, the national library is offering researchers the opportunity to explore its remarkable Heritage Collection. The collection includes a rare trove of manuscripts, books, and artefacts documenting a wealth of Arab-Islamic civilisation and human thought.

“Qatar National Library is more than a construction site – it is a highly active organisation that has undertaken ambitious digitizations efforts, formed major global partnerships, and provides cutting edge resources for digital discovery. We are on the move in Qatar and around the world to share our vision and learn from our peers about how some of the most creative libraries in the world serve their communities,” Dr Lux added.

QNL’s participation in the conference organised by Qatar Foundation Research and Development under the theme “Qatar’s Cross-Cutting Research Grand Challenges” is the latest in a spate of activities the library has undertaken on a local, regional and international level, including hosting community events in Qatar, conducting regional workshops and forging high-level international partnerships.

QNL is a non-profit organisation under the umbrella of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. It is supporting Qatar on its journey from a carbon-based economy to a knowledge-based economy by providing resources to students, researchers, and the community in Qatar. QNL’s mission is to spread knowledge, nurture the imagination, cultivate creativity, and preserve the nation’s heritage for future generations.
