Qatar National Library (QNL) recently contributed to the Kahramaa Awareness Park (KAP) with a library collection dedicated to school students aged 6 - 17, consisting of approximately 500 books.
This contribution was made as part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) recently signed between the two organizations. The agreement will also see QNL providing e-resources registration for KAP users and training services for KAP librarians, as well as conducting joint library programs in the KAP.
Hind Al Khulaifi, Head of Children’s Services, QNL, said: “QNL’s contribution to the Kahramaa Awareness Park further enhances our commitment to promoting a love of reading in Qatar and to the development of children and youth throughout the country.”
Eng. Saadi Al Said, Director of Administration and Planning, QNL, said: “QNL’s continuous efforts in cooperating with local organizations aims to enhance learning opportunities in Qatar and to provide free resources to our country’s diverse communities. We also believe that together both organizations will contribute greatly to creating a knowledge-based society in Qatar.”
The Kahramaa Awareness Park, part of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), is a high-end educational facility established to achieve the objectives of the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency, Tarsheed, and to serve as a platform for educating young people about the importance of conserving energy consumption. This reflects Kahramaa’s concern to mobilize its community outreach efforts to ensure awareness based on innovation and creativity.
Eng. Abdul Aziz Ahmed Al Hammadi, Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department Manager at Kahramaa, said: “The Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department seeks to achieve further success and progress through Tarsheed, launched by Kahramaa in 2012. The program aims to raise awareness, encourage technologies, and develop legislation and regulations relating to conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy in Qatar, while considering the socioeconomic growth and environmental dimension to ensure sustainable development and welfare for citizens and residents. A strategy focusing on the program’s three pillars: awareness, outreach and community development; laws, regulations and new technologies; and the development of a consumption tariff needs to be expanded.”
“This MoU with Qatar National Library will further help raise awareness about energy conservation through sharing research experiences, leveraging QNL’s vast world-class knowledge resources and meeting the program’s outreach and community development mandate,” Al Hammadi added.
QNL, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), supports Qatar’s journey towards becoming a knowledge-based economy by spreading knowledge, nurturing imagination, cultivating creativity and preserving the nation’s heritage for future generations.
