Qatar National Library is hosting a lineup of events this March to nurture spiritual growth and personal development throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
On 1 March, the Library kicks off activities with the Athan Ramadan contest, where participants can record themselves saying the call to prayer and then share it with the Library for the opportunity to win prizes during the last week of the holy month.
On 3 March, the Library hosts a session to introduce the e-Marefa Databank, a tool to analyse and evaluate the performance of Islamic financial institutions. Participants will gain hands-on experience navigating the specialized database, extracting relevant data, and applying key performance indicators.
Later in the day, the focus turns to youth with the resumption of “Our Children Matter” series. The session will host Abdullah Al-Shami, a physiotherapist at Hamad Hospital, who will share insights into the early signs and causes of developmental delay.
On 4 March, the Library is organizing another orientation session to introduce GlobalData, its newly acquired market intelligence database, which combines extensive information on various economic sectors across the Gulf with exclusive reports covering the mining, construction, and oil and gas industries.
On 5 March, nature will take center stage with the “Start Your Garden” workshop, which will be organized in cooperation with the Gharsa Initiative for Home Gardening. The workshop, which builds on the success of the Expo 2023 Doha Horticulture Exhibition, aims to promote sustainable gardening and healthy food concepts in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
On 6 March, QNL, in cooperation with the 27th Annual Conference and Exhibition of the Special Libraries Association - Arabian Gulf Chapter, will host the Libraries Lead Forum 2024 Special Session. The session will focus on positioning libraries as innovative, technologically advanced institutions that not only preserve traditional values but also lead in the digital era, ensuring equitable access to information and cutting‐edge resources and services.
The day will conclude with “The Joy of Chamber Music with a Piano Trio”, performed by Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra’s Taehyun Kim, Anton Pavlovskiy, and Nayoung Kim. Chamber music, which was first established in the late 1700s and early 1800s by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven during the so-called Viennese Classic Era, is a genre within classical music specifically crafted for a compact ensemble of instruments.
On 12 March, the Library, as the IFLA Preservation and Conservation Center, will host a webinar within the framework of the Himaya Project to address efforts to fight the illicit trafficking of cultural property. The webinar will explain the process of gathering and processing information using INTERPOL’s Stolen Works of Art database.
On 14 March, children will have the opportunity to learn about the Qur’an with the launch of a new weekly Instagram competition, titled “A Prophet's Story: Read the Qur'an to Find Out Who!”. The competition will also be held on 21 and 28 March.
The Library will also be hosting other activities to celebrate the holy month including a second children-oriented series titled “Stories from the Qur’an”. The series, which will introduce children to the Quran and the wisdom behind its stories, will kick off on March 18 with sessions scheduled for March 23 and 30.
The Library will also launch another series dedicated to women’s role in Islam under the theme “Fiqh and Beauty”. The series, which features session on March 20 and 27, aims to familiarize youth with the important role that Islam awarded to women and their special status. Girls are invited to participate to learn about the Islamic principles of purity, prayer, and ethics.
