Qatar National Library and Qatar Foundation Community Development jointly organized a lecture, “Gandhi After 150 Years,” on 28 November to mark the anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi 150 years ago. The event was part of the Library’s celebration of the Qatar India 2019 Year of Culture.
Celebrating the life of a man known as the Father of India, Dr. Faisal Davji, Director of South Asia History at Oxford University, United Kingdom, delivered a lecture that explored Gandhi’s idea of non-violence and its ongoing relevance for many communities across the world today.
Himanshu Desai, who attended the event, said: “I am really pleased to attend this talk at the Library. Gandhi’s contributions continue to have an important impact on our world today, and I thank the Library for organizing this lecture so we can appreciate his continuing legacy.”
Another attendee, Ahmed Salman, said: “It is important to celebrate Gandhi as part of the Qatar India 2019 Year of Culture, since he touched so many people around the world, and an inspiring venue like the Library is the perfect place for such a great lecture.”
