Qatar National Library and the Qatar Football Association (QFA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the exchange of knowledge and expertise to enhance collective scientific, cultural and technical development in Qatar.
The MoU outlines cooperation between the two institutions in various areas, especially those related to the documentation process in the field of football.
The Library’s agreement with the QFA will make lasting contributions to the sporting community in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, as well as leaving a deep cultural legacy across the Middle East and worldwide.
His Excellency Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, Minister of State, Qatar and President of Qatar National Library, said: “Football is more than a sport. It has become a means of communication with young people and between them. It is a sport with a history rich in honest competition based on human values of mutual respect. Likewise, our nation is constructing an honorable history thanks to all the major events it hosts, such as the FIFA World Cup and the following events.
"We are happy to sign this Memorandum of Understanding with the Qatar Football Association. This MoU reflects both sides’ wish to unite efforts that aim at serving researchers, scholars and historians today, tomorrow and in the future in terms of football documentation and studies related to the game’s various aspects.”
His Excellency concluded: “The MoU we signed with the QFA simply provides a framework, but our ambition and the reality of cooperation between us will go beyond it. Hand in hand, we will work on documenting our nation’s current events under our young and creative leadership. We will preserve these records to be a rich heritage in our nation’s brilliant future.”
His Excellency Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Bin Ahmad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Football Association, said: “We are proud to sign an MoU with Qatar National Library to work together on documenting the history of Qatari football. There is no doubt that cooperating with a pioneering and specialized library will have a positive impact on sports in general and football in particular. Here, I would like to thank His Excellency Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, Minister of State and President of Qatar National Library, for the effort exerted to reach this agreement between both sides.
"A while ago, we started the documentation process of Qatari football affairs. Considering that Qatar National Library is the appropriate authority to accelerate the documentation process in an ideal manner and in line with the goals and aspirations of the two sides, we will collaborate with the Library to create distinct digital content, including books, references and folders specialized in football affairs. This content is intended to serve followers and readers, both inside and outside Qatar.”
