6 September 2016
Qatar National Library (QNL), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), is organising a Book Discussion on October 14 on the book titled ‘Jassim – The Leader: Founder of Qatar’ by celebrated author and former Minister of Economy and Commerce His Excellency Sheikh Mohamed Bin Ahmed Bin Jassim Al Thani.

October’s Book Discussion will be held in English at Hamad Bin Khalifa University Student Centre (HBKU) at QF from 6:30pm-8:00pm.

Through the Book Discussion series, QNL embodies its firm commitment to QF’s continued efforts in protecting the nation’s past for future generations. By sharing valuable information and cultivating creativity, QNL supports Qatar Foundation’s mission to foster a progressive society, while preserving Qatar’s and the Arab and Islamic world’s heritage.
The book covers the extraordinary life of ‘the Leader’ and the founder of modern-day Qatar, providing a fascinating insight into the life of Sheikh Jassim Bin Muhammad Bin Thani.

The book details how the ruler was able to unify tribes, control regional conflicts and establish Qatar as a consolidated state.

His Excellency’s book offers interesting and thorough insights into Qatar’s history from when it was founded to the present day. Published in 2013, the biography highlights Qatar in the 1830s and offers readers a unique insight into the recently established capital, Doha.

The monthly Book Discussion series organised by QNL seeks to encourage youth, students and the community to embrace reading and enables participants to engage in an open discussion on topics related to the book.

QNL’s November Book Discussion will feature ‘The Holy Sail’ by the Qatari writer Abdul Aziz Al Mahmoud.
