Qatar National Library (QNL) resumes its monthly events in January with an array of workshops and training sessions designed to provide an educational and creative platform for students and the wider community.
QNL’s 2017 program starts with a free, hands-on training workshop on designing effective presentations. The session will teach participants how to create effective presentations using design elements and processes on PowerPoint.
QNL will host free training on ‘Emergency Preparedness for People with Special Needs’. The training aims to provide information on how to properly reach people with disabilities during emergencies in public places. Teachers, parents and caregivers to people with special needs are encouraged to attend.
Furthermore, QNL kicks off the 2017 monthly book discussions with ‘The Ocean at the End of the Lane’ by Neil Gaiman. The novel tells the story of a middle-aged man who is rooted in the memories of his childhood and recounts the places, people and his experiences at that time. It is an imaginative and poignant fairytale that deals with the search for self-identity and how our lives are shaped by our childhood experiences.
In collaboration with the University of Nottingham, QNL is organizing a free workshop entitled ‘Widening Audience Engagement with Digital Content’. The session aims to provide participants with critical perspectives on the choice and adoption of digital media and technologies to enrich audience engagement.
QNL also continues with its monthly workshop on research skills. The session focuses on the essential research skills which apply to a wide range of disciplines and subject areas. It will cover four modules: Research Tool Kit, Search Strategies & Techniques, Citing Resources and Writing Research Papers.
The monthly online resources training session in 2017 begins with the subject of engineering and technology. The session will offer training on selected online resources that contain scientific journal articles, eBooks and reviews in various areas of engineering and technology. These resources include ProQuest Engineering and Technology databases, SpringerLink, ScienceDirect and IEEE Xplore Digital Library.
For the second time, QNL will host a special arts event for adults titled ‘Coloring for Adults’ that explores the popular new trend of coloring for adults. The new hobby, which has taken the world by storm, is likened to meditation as it helps to reduce anxiety and increase focus.
To help fresh graduates and job seekers, QNL is organizing a free workshop on ‘Writing Curriculum Vitae’. This practical workshop will include the main sections of a CV, and the details to include in each of these sections.
In addition, QNL offers free, hands-on training workshops on Microsoft Office programs starting with providing practical training on Microsoft Excel’s basic functions, formatting and formulas. The January workshop explores Microsoft Visio and provides practical training on the program’s diagrams and flow charts, and how to tailor these features to users’ specific needs.
