QNL’s Specialised Research Training Workshop Aims To Enhance Research Skills of Undergraduate Students In Qatar
Qatar National Library (QNL), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), is set to host a series of informative, educational and social activities throughout January aimed at engaging members of the community.
Building on the continuous success of the library’s events last year, the exciting stock of events planned during the month of January aims to spread knowledge and develop the wider community in Qatar.
January’s Book Discussion, to be held in Arabic, features ‘One Hundred Great Persons from the Islamic Nation Who Changed History’, which is authored by Jihad Al-Turbani. The book chronicles the extraordinary stories of inspiring individuals from the Islamic Nation who went on to shape history. The book takes the reader on a journey through the Prophet’s era, the successive caliphate States, Andalusia and the Americas. The book discussion will take place at the TV Room in HBKU Student Center, which is located in the Education City on January 13 from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm.
QNL will host a training session on ‘Selected Engineering and Technology Online Resources’, offering hands-on training dedicated to the effective use of the ASTM International, ASME Digital Collection and IEEE Xplore Digital Library databases. The training session will take place on January 19, from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, at the HBKU Student Center in Education City.
Through these events, QNL exemplifies its firm commitment to QF’s mission to unlock human potential by sharing valuable information and cultivating creativity in order to foster a progressive society, while preserving Qatar’s and the Arab and Islamic world’s heritage.
In addition, QNL will conduct a specialised workshop on Conducting Research, for undergraduate students to enhance their research skills to better utilise QNL’s databases and other learning resources available online. The workshop will consist of four research modules that cover the research process from searching for information to writing a research paper.
The first two modules of the workshop will be held on January 27 from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon at the HBKU Student Center, while the second two modules will be held in February.
Engineer Saadi Al Said, Director of Administration and Planning at QNL, said: “Following on from an incredibly successful year, we are pleased to be entering 2016 with a host of regular and new monthly events. The library aims to engage undergraduate students in Qatar through a specialised research workshop in order to enhance the research culture at the university level.”
