The Arts of the Book in the Islamic World and the Role of Women

In our full-day event commemorating International Women’s Day, we will celebrate the creative power of women in the Islamic art of the book. Calligraphy, illumination, miniature painting – the art of the book is the most fundamental element of Islamic art and is highly regarded throughout the world. Although there is a growing body of research on its origin and development in general, little is still known about the role women played in the evolution of Islamic book art.

Mommy's Magic: Developing Multi-Sensory Books

In this workshop, mothers, teachers, and multisensory communication experts will create multimodal books to accommodate the sensory needs of children of different profiles. Participants are invited to join each other in developing and trans-creating reading materials for children.

Readers and Opinions Book Club

In this month's meeting of Readers and Opinions, we will discuss Baynama Yanaam Al Aalam, by Susan Abulhawa. The novel tells the story of a family uprooted from its Palestine home in 1948. Copies of the book are available at the User Services Desk.
