In celebration of the Arabic Manuscript Day, Mahmoud Zaki, Information Services Librarian (Manuscripts), will explore the physical and textual aspects of the Arabic manuscript tradition, based on the rich collection of the Heritage Library. The talk also includes discussion of manuscript production in the Islamic World, the anatomy of the manuscript and types of texts beside the main text. You'll get introduced to terms and concepts, including intellectual heritage, codicology and textual criticism, and learn how to recognize the main components of a manuscript. You'll also hear about the many items and services of the Heritage Library.

International humanitarian law and international human rights law are seen by many as one law, perhaps because of similar phrasing. Both laws do complement one another and share the same rights. However, they are independent of each other, and at times, both laws are applied.

Quilling is an art technique that uses strips of paper to form decorative designs. In this workshop, held in collaboration with Hobby House Qatar, you'll will be provided quilling tools and learn how to make shapes and patterns with paper strips. Then, create your own work of art and take it home!

To mark Arabic Manuscript Day and highlight heritage preservation as a human right, the Library, in cooperation with the UNESCO Office in Doha, will host the roundtable discussion "Yemeni Manuscripts and Safeguarding Yemeni Heritage." Dr. Anne Regourd, editor of Chronique des Manuscrits du Yemen, will present a lecture on the specific problems of the manuscripts in danger in Yemen. Anna Paolini, Director of the UNESCO regional office in Doha, will present a new project funded by the EU for the conservation of built Yemeni heritage. Paolini will also discuss the problem of heritage preservation in Yemen, including trafficking issues. And Tom Leiermann, an architect with more than 15 years of experience working on development and rehabilitation of heritage sites in Yemen, will present the challenges to the Yemeni historical sites preservation.

Join this casual gathering of knitters and crocheters every Thursday from 9:00 – 11:00 AM to work on projects and share skills in a friendly atmosphere.
