Qatar National Library continues to offer its members exciting learning opportunities online this summer. June will be filled with a wide spectrum of topics including coding, critical thinking, sustainability, history and technology.
On 1 June, the Library will host “Creative Thinking and Critical Thinking,” a workshop focused on the importance of thinking as a mental process in developing the abilities of individuals and society.
On 2 June, participants can join Hanan Mohammed Alshikhabobakr, a passionate advocate of technology in the Arab world, for “Coding in Everyday Life” and understand how everyone can take part in customizing technology to be more creative and find new ways to do things every day.
The Library’s Virtual College Fair, in collaboration with the embassies of the US and Canada, will commence on 6 June to provide students with information on studying abroad, the admissions process and academic programs. Students will have the opportunity to engage with various American and Canadian universities between 6 and 10 June.
The Library will also be drawing attention to global conversations around sustainability through its sessions “Recycling Your Materials at Home” on 6 June and “Sustainable Development Goals 101” on 13 June. On 6 June, the Library, in cooperation with the Friends of the Environment Center, will conduct a workshop to show participants how they can recycle common home materials such as paper, cloth and plastic to create wonderful new products while helping the environment. The workshop will be held on the Library’s Instagram platform. On 13 June, a general session will be held on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and how important it is to track progress to achieve the desired goals.
On 8 June, join the interactive workshop “The Art of Songwriting,” in which members of the United States Air Force Central Band will serve as guides to explore popular music as part of the Qatar-US Year of Culture 2021.
On 9 June, the Library will explore strategies to encourage early childhood speech to stimulate communication and lead children from being solely responders to communication initiators. The session will be presented by Ruba Dababat, Speech and Language Pathologist at The Learning Center at Qatar Foundation.
On 10 June, in its role as the IFLA Preservation and Conservation Regional Center, the Library, in cooperation with the Arab League for Education, Culture and Science and the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, will host the lecture on “Using Virtual Reality to Preserve Heritage and Monuments in the Arab World.” The lecture aims to raise awareness and build capacity on the use of modern technologies in the field of virtual reality and the development of 3D modeling programs, paving the path to increased interaction.
On 21 June, the Library, in collaboration with the University of Tübingen, will conduct an intensive course on the Arabo-Islamic manuscript culture.
On 26 June, participants can join Fatima Al-Mohannadi, an eighth-grade student, to learn how to spread awareness about autism. Fatima initiated the “You’re Not Alone” project to educate people on how to deal with and live with autism.
