As an initiative under Qatar National Library, Qatar Reads fosters a love for reading across Qatar. Presented by Qatar Reads, this exhibition celebrates the novel Men in the Sun by Palestinian writer Ghassan Kanafani. Each year, its 'One Book, One Doha' campaign selects a significant Arabic literary work for a community-wide focus.

Qatar National Library offers you a rare opportunity to learn from Ajay Sharma, a Jaipuri master in Indo-Islamic miniature painting, about the preparation of natural stone pigments and the basics of the painting process. The event will begin with a discussion about miniatures with Islamic art specialist Dr. Jochen Sokoly, followed by a live demonstration from the artist.The event is being held in collaboration with VCUarts Qatar and is part of the programming for the exhibition "From Material to Market: The Art of the Book in Morocco", running at QNL from 26 November 2024 to 26 April 2025.

The title of this episode is "The History of the Establishment of the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ansari Complex and its Achievements (Part One)," featuring Faisal Al-Ansari, the executive director of the complex, who will discuss its history and the cultural journey and educational achievements of the late Sheikh Abdullah.

Join author Haifa Babiker for a discussion of the story Adam and His Greedy Neighbor, where children will explore the story's theme and draw scenes from it. This event is part of the Winter Camp for Children that is hosted by the Library.

How can photography document and preserve cultural heritage?This question will be at the heart of a discussion with two photographers who have been using analogue photography to capture Qatari culture since the 1980s. French photographer Vincent Aitzegagh, whose work forms a major part of QNL’s collection on Qatar’s traditional architecture, and Khalifa Al-Obaidly, one of Qatar’s leading fine art photographers, will share their professional experiences in an open conversation that aims to inspire audiences both in Qatar and beyond. 

Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa, is a Kuwaiti clinical psychologist, entrepreneur, and creator of The 99, a comic book series featuring superheroes inspired by Islamic culture and values.

Participants will learn about the types of shells used by ancient humans in Qatar, how to extract the purple dye and how to apply it directly to fabric, transforming it into the maroon color for which Qatar has been known throughout its history and which is now a  color of its flag.Don't miss this opportunity to deepen your knowledge of Qatar's history and cultural heritage!
