The training will beconducted in Arabic only. Dr. Abdelhamid Salah Al-Sharif, an internationalexpert with over 15 years of experience in disaster risk management andemergency response in the heritage sector, will be conducting the trainingcourses.

Publishing Open Access with Elsevier

Qatar National Library (QNL) has recently signed a new Open Access publishing agreement with Elsevier, enabling eligible researchers in Qatar to publish their research Open Access with reduced or no article publishing charges. This workshop aims to introduce researchers to the agreement, explain how it works in practice, and guide participants through the process of publishing Open Access with Elsevier journals.

This workshop is a continuation of the lecture “Historical Writing: From Law and the Sea to the Archive” and is part of the “Qatar Contemporary History” series. It aims to move the methodological discussion to a practical level, enabling participants to engage directly with historical sources related to Qatar’s history.   The workshop focuses on analyzing legal, maritime, and archival documents—such as contracts, debt records, and court documents—as entry points for writing a social and economic history of Qatar, and for situating local experiences within their wider Gulf and regional contexts.   The workshop also includes hands-on exercises in which participants analyze selected documentary materials and draft short narrative texts, strengthening their skills in historical research and academic writing, in line with the objectives of the Contemporary History of Qatar series.   * Workshop participants will receive an electronic certificate of attendance.
