Qatar National Library, as the IFLA MENA Regional Office, invites you to a new workshop under the Librarians for Libraries program. This workshop explores the profound transformation that generative artificial intelligence is bringing to the library and information profession. The workshop follows an integrated approach that combines AI tools and applications, ethical considerations, cognitive risks associated with overreliance on AI, and the strategic leadership role librarians can play in institutional AI agendas. The workshop highlights how long-established professional competencies of librarians, including information evaluation, knowledge organization, ethical mediation, and community engagement, can become essential leadership skills in the AI era. It also addresses critical issues related to information quality, data privacy, and cognitive safety through practical examples and real-world library scenarios. Participants will be introduced to a practical framework for evaluating AI tools in libraries, alongside strategies for safe, ethical, and transparent AI use. The workshop further demonstrates how to design AI-enhanced research consultation protocols that incorporate privacy safeguards, transparency practices, and critical thinking support. Finally, the session concludes with a leadership-focused component that empowers participants to transform individual practice into institutional strategy, positioning libraries as active contributors to AI governance and responsible AI implementation within their institutions and communities.
