National pride is the powerful theme of Qatar National Library’s programs in December, and one particular event, “My Dream in Qatar,” on 17 December, celebrated these aspirations in a truly striking fashion.
Young visitors ages 12 to 18 gathered at the Library during the event and were asked to inscribe their dreams for their future in Qatar on helium balloons. Together with Library staff, they launched the balloons outside the Library in a symbolic gesture.
On 16 December, visitors to the Library learned about the traditional art of the Arabian Gulf and Qatar in a lecture, “The Journey of Qatar’s Traditional Art,” by artist and researcher Mohammed Alsaygh.
During an informative lecture, “Scripts from Qatar’s History,” on 15 December, leading historians and experts highlighted personal letters and signatures from famous Qatari historical figures, which reflect the country’s social and economic life. The lecture also discussed Mus'haf Al Zubara, one of the oldest examples of calligraphic writing that has been found in Qatar.
On 5 December, Qatari writer Jassim Al Mohannadi launched his first comic book, Primeval, and on 6 December, renowned Qatari artist Ahmed Al Maadeed took visitors through his creative journey as an artist and talked about the creation of his iconic painting “Tamim The Glorious.”
