In celebration of Universal Children's Day, we are hosting a practical workshop for parents to create 'Busy Bags' for their children. Busy Bags are simple, educational activities for toddlers and children, stored in bags so they're always ready. The workshop will include an overview of studies on childhood development and early literacy.

ScienceDirect is a valuable online database consisting of full-text ebooks and journals in the fields of physical sciences, engineering, life sciences, health, social sciences and the humanities. Scopus is a large abstract and citation database containing both peer-reviewed research literature and quality web sources in the same fields. To honor the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, the Library is proud to host the exhibition '1918: War is Over,' with the French Embassy to Qatar and the French Institute of Doha. The exhibition includes rare items from the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum.

In this month's session of Book Club for the Blind, we will discuss The Giver, by Lois Lowry. The novel tells the story of a young boy tasked with receiving his repressive society's memories and emotions. The audiobook is available in the Overdrive database at www.qnl.qa. Non-visually impaired readers are welcome to participate.

Internationally known Canadian author and professor of sociology Dr. Arthur Frank will discuss how and why we talk about—or avoid talking about—chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cancer, obesity and genetic diseases. Dr. Frank's own life-changing experiences surviving a heart attack and cancer caused him to reflect on the stories that people create to explain and communicate their trauma, doubt and pain. His book, The Wounded Story Teller, explores the kinds of traditional story types that disease sufferers often adopt such as "The Restitution Narrative," "The Chaos Narrative" and the "Quest Narrative." These can be found both in ancient and modern literature and in everyday life. His talk will be valuable for anyone who has been seriously ill or who has a sick loved one and who has struggled with explaining or understanding their sickness. The event will conclude with a “Hope Stories” talk by the Qatar Cancer Society.
