The classic art of calligraphy is a prominent part of Arabic and Islamic culture, bringing beauty and emotion to the written word. The Library is proud to celebrate Arabic Calligraphy Week with a series of events that explore the past, present and future of this remarkable art form.

Let’s end 2021 the right way: with exercise and activity. Join along with your child for a lively session involving fitness tips, a story, and some songs and movements to help us keep fit while having fun.

As part of Arabic Calligraphy Week at the Library, this session will talk about how to find Arabic calligraphy resources at the Library and highlight some books related to this beautiful art.

Join us in a concert with the Woodwinds Ensemble, members from the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, who will perform compositions from around the world.   

Did you know that chess improves memory, problem-solving, and IQ? It's also a wonderful way to improve focus, flex those creative muscles, and most importantly, kids have fun playing.

Join us to discover and explore the Library's various online resources for middle and high school students, including research tools, ebooks, audiobooks and periodicals.

Children may be at home, but that shouldn’t stop them from having hands-on fun learning. With Kitchen Science, we’ll use everyday objects from around the house to do cool science experiments. Every month, there will be a different activity highlighting a different science topic. 

How do you search for a manuscript? How do you choose the correct historical manuscript for study or publishing? These are initial questions that come to the minds of students or researchers who embark on their journey of dealing with Islamic-Arabic manuscripts, either for editing and publishing, studying them physically (codicology and paleography) or artistically (arts of the book), or other disciplines of scholarship. Scholars and intellectuals interested in history, classical texts and intellectual heritage, and those who want to read primary sources in their original witnesses might be interested in the same questions.

Join us for Online Storytime for Children. We will read stories and make up our own together.

As part of Arabic Calligraphy Week at the Library, and in cooperation with the HBKU College of Science and Engineering, Dr. James She will give a talk on the latest developments of Artificial Intelligence technologies and will discuss how these can be applied in the arts and in the field of Arabic calligraphy in particular.
