Persian manuscript poem dated 1914, from our Heritage Library collection
In celebration of the important role of poetry in Islam, we recently held Ramadan Poetry Writing for Young Adults, a virtual workshop. Participants composed poems about the holy month using three common poetry styles: haiku, cinquain and limerick. Below are some of our favorites. For more young adult poetry, check out our online resources NoveList and OverDrive. To join our Creative Writing Circle for Young Adults and try your hand at poetry and other forms of writing, visit our Events page. Hope we see you soon!

The Fasting Feast
Looking, looking at the table,
How many minutes till he is able?
To sit, and eat what he has cooked,
For now, he can only look
At the fasting feast on the table.
