In this session of the English Fiction Book Club, we will discuss The Art of Hearing Heartbeats, by Jan-Philipp Sendker. This inspirational love story spans decades and takes the reader from Burma in the 1950s to the modern day. Copies of the book will be available at the User Services Desk.

In this lecture, we will discuss the story of the "Flood” mentioned in the Epic of “Gilgamesh” and how the region of the Arabian Gulf (Delmon) was described in this legend and in the Mesopotamian legends as the pure, sacred land of immortality. The epic of Gilgamesh is a poetic Sumerian epic written in cuneiform script in Akkadian on twelve muddy tablets discovered in 1853. The lecture will be given by Dr. Haya Al-Thani, Director of Museum Affairs at the Qatar National Museum, and will be moderated by Dr. Sherine Al-Manshawi from Qatar University.
